F. A. Q.
You will find below some of the more commonly asked questions. Should you not find the answer that you are looking for here, then feel free to contact us.
How many lessons will I need to pass my test?
It is impossible to give an exact figure, but the DVSA state an average of 45 hours driving tuition plus around 20 hours of private practice. This is based on taking a single 1 hour lesson a week. By taking 2 hour lessons you can dramatically reduce this, and it will save you money in the long run. More information here on how to pass your driving test easier
Will I take the Test in the car I’ve been learning to drive in?
Yes. The only thing that will affect it is if there is a problem with the car such as breakdown. Whilst we do everything possible to minimise the risk, it cannot be avoided if the car should break down. This has not happened to any of our pupils yet.
Do I have to pass my Theory Test before learning to drive?
No. There is no legal requirement to pass your Theory first.
How long does the Theory Test certificate last for?
It lasts for 2 years from the date you passed it. If you do not pass your practical test on or before the 2 years have expired, you will need to sit the Theory Test again.
Does the Driving Test fee include the car Hire for the test?
No. The test fee is set by the DVSA and does not cover the use of the car. A 2 hour lesson is usually sufficient to cover you getting to and from the test centre, some final practice/tuition, as well as the test itself.
What happens if I fail my driving test and do I need to continue lessons?
I would look to book you another test immediately. I would strongly recommend that you continue with lessons until the next test in order to not only keep up the practice but also to rectify what caused the fail.
Is it true that examiners have set pass and fail rates?
No. If you drive to the required standard you will pass your test. It does not matter what day/time you take your test. You will be tested fairly.
Can you help me with my Theory Test as I’m finding it hard to understand?
Yes, we will help you as much or as little as you like with the Theory and Hazard Perception Training. We can do in-car mock theory tests, road sign tests etc. to help you pass first time.
Can my instructor come with me on my driving test?
Yes, the examiner will ask you before your test begins if you want your instructor to come with you. They cannot take part in the test and should you ask your instructor a question they cannot reply.
I can’t find my licence. Do I need to have it for the test?
YES! Its an absolute must-have. Without your card provisional licence, you will not be able to sit either the Theory or Practical Test. I will check that you have it at the time of booking the test, and should you be unable to find it, you still have time to get a replacement from the DVLA.
Can you pick me up from somewhere other than my house?
Yes, that’s fine. As long as I know in advance and I can still get to my next pupil in time then this is not an issue.
How do I pay for my lessons?
You may pay for all lessons, whether weekly or block bookings, along with both your Theory and Practical tests either in cash direct to your instructor or by card to the office over the phone/live chat. No lessons are given ‘in credit’.
